SCHOOLING & BREAKING

Schooling and Bringing On Young Horses

Starting (breaking in) and the Schooling and Bringing On Young Horses

This is a very important part of our yard and lives.  We take horses and ponies at all stages of their lives, from the unhandled un-backed youngster to the horse that has had a period without work for whatever reason. Much is to be learned about their psychology and general handling in order to put them on to the right track for their future benefit. So often, owners have come to us at their wits end with unmanageable horses, to find them turned around through our patience, expertise, and understanding.

Horses and ponies come to us from all over the UK and Ireland to be handled, started , schooled and/or sold.  We prefer to use the word ‘starting’ rather than breaking in, as the latter implies a fight with the horse, which is definitely NOT our aim!  We LOVE this part of our job with a passion!!  Working with the owners alongside the horse is often the key to a successful partnership, and being at the end of the phone to back them up once they have gone home again gives the owner the confidence to carry on.

In addition, if your horse has a specific problem, eg. Difficulty loading, or problems catching, etc, we can help you discover the best way to deal with such problems. There is never only one stock answer, but lots of different ways to approach each individual issue.

Getting the right chemistry between horse and owner is very important, and is essential to the success of every partnership. We constantly strive to get this right with each combination that we deal with.
