Starting
(Breaking In), Schooling and Bringing On of Young Horses - Problem
Horses Reschooled
We offer starting, schooling and bringing on of young and "problem"
horses.
We specialise in horses that other people have given up on.
Where others might see a "problem" horse we see a challenge!
| Our methods involve patience, understanding
and knowing the psychology of the individual horse. Every
horse is different and our experience over the years of dealing
with a wide range of horses and ponies has given us a wealth
of knowledge about the best way to deal with each animal. |
|
 |
We take horses and ponies at all stages of their schooling,
from the unbacked youngster to the horse that has had a
period without work.
In addition, if your horse has a specific problem eg.
difficulty loading or problems catching we can help you
discover the best way to deal with such problems.

Horses and ponies come to us from all over
the country for starting and schooling. We offer stabling,
feed and grazing whilst your horse is with us. Please contact
us to discuss your requirements. |
|
| We prefer to use the word
STARTING rather than BREAKING IN as the latter implies a fight
with the horse and this is definitely NOT our approach! |

Visitors to the yard are very welcome to watch us starting and

exercises in equine psychology!

A Partnership in the Making
The image on the left shows Jess from Underhill Stables with
a client who brought her horse for reschooling.
We are happy to spend time with owners as well as their horses
as part of the schooling process.
Alternatively, if you prefer to drop your horse off with
us, forget about him and pick him up later, schooled and "made",
we are can oblige.

Clients' Comments
I brought my 6 year old Irish Cob gelding, Boston to Underhill
Stables as he was a serious and persistent "napper" both in the
school and out on a hack. After 3 weeks at Underhill he was much
more manageable and could be ridden in the school quite happily
without suddenly veering off or stopping dead as he used to do.
Out on a hack, he actually went first and I even got him to turn
round and move away from the group of horses he was with on the
way back to the stables - this would have been unthinkable before!
The staff at Underhill also gave me lessons on Boston and showed
me how to handle him which was very helpful. "

In addition to starting and schooling we offer riding lessons,
pony trekking, hacking and NVQ courses, all in the beautiful and
unspoilt Mid Wales countryside.

We are prepared to consider purchasing horses/ponies when it
is clear that the owner and horse's "chemistry" is not compatible.
Matching the horse to the person is all important to the well being
of both and is not necessarily a failure if things do not work out.
It is better to admit it and move on.
